Celebrity Trends that Went Overboard with Goth

Goth has an edgy, cool and dangerous vibe, but the real danger is going overboard like several celebrities have in the past year. A report from Seventeen magazine clearly shows the celebs crossed into dangerous ground by falling prey to several fashion faux pas that you can easily avoid at your prom or formal affair.

  • Zombie danger. A Goth gown can be cool, but that look can switch over to ghoul if you follow Taylor Momsen’s lead of pairing your dark outfit with the hair and makeup of a dead person. Her zombie look came from super-pale skin, bleached out hair with dark roots and makeup usually reserved for the stars of B-grade horror movies.

  • Halloween costume danger. Leona Lewis fell into the Halloween costume trap by donning an all-black ball gown. While there’s generally nothing wrong with that – black is the new black! – there is something wrong with an all-black gown that channels a wicked witch. The pointed accent on the shoulders resembled a witch hat, the leather-look bodice added confusion and the layers and layers and more layers of tulle made the look ridiculous rather than riveting.

  • Black lace danger. Black lace is not automatically goth, but it can be automatically hideous if you follow Whitney Port’s cue. She went for a shapeless black lace see-through dress that looked more like a hanky than anything else. Her nude slip killed the rest of the look, making her appear naked underneath.

Go Goth if you got it, but learn from others when the cool look becomes an un-cool nightmare!
