Be prepared to dedicate some serious time to finding your dream prom dress. You will want to shop around and try on a variety of prom gowns. Do not limit yourself to only styles on that wish list. Try on styles that you do not necessarily like because hangers and super models do not look the same in these prom dresses as you will.

Also, ask yourself if you can move in each formal dress you try on. Prom is all about having fun and dancing so you want a prom gown that’s lets you do just that. You will want to make sure the dress is not too tight or uncomfortable. One popular style that many girls have trouble with is the mermaid gown. It is tight on the hips and thighs and restricts movement.

Consider the length. Long prom dresses are in, but if it is too long you will be tripping on the hem all night. See how the dress looks with your shoes on and of. Any prom night veteran will tell you that after hours of dancing you will be kicking off those strappy heels before the night ends.

When it comes to short dresses keep in mind shorter is not always better. Super short cocktail dresses are fun, but you want to find one that makes you look classy not trashy.
